Weingarten Prisoner of War Camp

Just outside of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri in Weingarten, Missouri, stood the Weingarten Prisoner of War camp. This camp, built c. 1942 and active until the end of the war in 1945, imprisoned thousands of Italian Prisoners of War (POWs) during the course of its operation. 

The Weingarten Prisoner of War Camp Collection at Southeast Missouri State University Special Collections & Archives houses newsletters written by both the American GIs and the Italian POWs, as well as photos of the camp, the daily life of the prisoners and American GIs in the camp, and the liberation of the camp.
